Although I am not sure that this can be implemented.

I use Barebones SSO for most of my projects. So it would be nice if I can implement this with middleware.

I didn't know SSO, so I'll take a look.
A quick search led me to this package https://github.com/jasny/sso that seems to be a more independent package.

I realize I missed this party when it started in 2015, but the ticket is open still. I'd love to know what you mean by "more independent package".

Seems like the SSO package is a Barebones SSO is a plugin for Barebones CMS, so it only makes sense if you're using this CMS.

The Single Sign-On (SSO) server and client is a complete SSO system in a single, self-contained package and does NOT require Barebones CMS to function.

Barebones SSO is a completely isolated package. There are no dependencies on Barebones CMS for it to function. The separation of interests statement is in the introduction to the product.
