In my team we got the error of a wrong PRIVATE_KEY when copy-pasting from 1Password the value to our .env file.

Do you think it would have sense to add an extra check when verifying the private key from process.env or this is too specific and responsibility of the user? What do you think?

It's the first time I hear of that problem. How did the ″ end up in 1Password in the first place, do you know?

I save my Private Keys on my existing user account GitHub login.

What does this exactly mean? Is there a place on GitHub to save Private Keys? Are these gists ? One thing is cool about 1Password is to share secrets between team members.

no I meant I use a normal login for 1Password. You can add sections in a login, and I save the secrets in there.

Alternatively you could use an API Credential for a GitHub App, set username to the ID and credential to the private key (replace line breaks with \n.

None of this is ideal 🤷🏼 I wish 1Password had proper multiline inputs

I got you now. Im not familiar with 1Password and I didn't know there was a kind of entry which is Login and has sections in it. I think this can work for avoiding the issue in the future :)

@oscard0m It's not 1passsword specific. This is something I've run into a few times with text input on some MacOS apps. You can disable it on most apps that uses the native mac text box by unchecking "Smart Quotes" under substitutions:
