In our case, we need to obtain S.M.A.R.T. status for SSDs and HDDs connected to a Hewlett-Packard-based hardware RAID controller. This requires smartctl to be run with the -d cciss,N argument.

We have modified the script a little. Yes, the revision may look bad, but it covers our needs to some extent. We think this will lead advanced contributors to a more elegant solution to the issue that could be useful to everyone.

#!/usr/bin/env bash
#
# Script informed by the collectd monitoring script for smartmontools (using smartctl)
# by Samuel B. <samuel_._behan_(at)_dob_._sk> (c) 2012
# source at: http://devel.dob.sk/collectd-scripts/

# TODO: This probably needs to be a little more complex. The raw numbers can have more
# data in them than you'd think.
