would be nice if the netbeans integration would also be implemented, as netbeans provides some features that are only available in paid licenses in e.g. pycharm like "real" coverage (where it shows which lines are covered with unit tests, not only a html output how many % are tested)

netbeans supports python with https://github.com/albilu/netbeansPython

Don't take this as a sarcasm, but is Netbeans still alive? I used to use Netbeans about 15 years ago, as well as Eclipse (for Java and C/C++) but didn't realize they were still actively maintained let alone had features added to them.

Do you know what the marketshare of both IDEs is?

I mean, frankly, if anything VS Code is a more likely candidate for additional functionality rn than Netbeans. But I'm ready to be convinced otherwise, assuming there is data.

dont know, i used to use netbeans too about 10 years ago, but thanks to oracle, the software killers, it went to apache and got more or less abandoned. but its still maintained. they released a new version in may and now in august.
i am only looking for any python IDE that supports some sort of displaying me what is covered with unit tests and what not. can vs code do that?
