Python Integration?

Greetings,
First off the projects seems great. I plan on using it. Just a quick question I am currently using a setup in which i need to analyze my device trace via python, so is there any integration of python with trice available. Preferably just after Uart or RTT, if so please point me towards the appropriate docs.

Never used Python but it should be no big deal for you. I see these options:

1. Read https://github.com/rokath/trice/blob/master/docs/TriceMessagesEncoding.md and https://pythonhosted.org/cobs/cobs.cobs.html.

• Write a Python program to read til.json
• Extract Id and values from binary data, get format string from til.json and printf

2. Start trice log -p COM1 as process from Python and grab the output.
3. Start trice log -p COM1 -ds and receive the emitted lines over TCP in a Python program.

• The lines are transferred as Go string slices and it should be possible to grab the strings in Python.
• I could provide an additional CLI switch to transfer pure strings to TCP.

To your point on sending the raw byte stream to the MQTT broker, I would rather keep that decentralized so it can scale.

Selecting some of the messages is possible using channel specific ID ranges. See #329. This will come in a few weeks. Right now you already could generate IDs only between 2000 and 5999 and give "mqtt:..." messages manually the IDs 100...499 for example. See trice-id-management-hints (maybe partially outdated). Adding an mqtt channel is to be done by extending []colorChannels in lineTransformerANSI.go. For decoding help see til.json.c.

You could consider decoding only the mqtt trice messages and to write the log file as binary logfile. With the trice tool you can view binary logfiles.

Good idea, I will add the MQTT channel. I think outside of this, the most practical solution will be to use the off-the-shelf COBS decoder with Python to process the data so I can intercept and transmit the MQTT channel messages.

I can implement post-processing with existing TRICE app for now until #337 is available.

@watersb1323, you can go ahead now using branch refactor. The information ./docs/TriceUserGuide.md should be sufficient. If you give me the needed syntax I could extend the trice tool to generate a til.json.py for you.
