As per policy of using the most recent LTS version.

  • Relatedly, some useful info about GStreamer upgrades in relation to Ubuntu versions: Upgrade GStreamer from 0.10 to 1.0 #152
  • Postgis version should also be updated (2.2?).
  • may also give us icecast 2.4 which has a super handy html player for each stream built into the admin screen

WIP PR here: #320

Seems to be working, but the upgrade path for existing production servers isn't likely to be easy, so it may prove the best approach to spin up a new fresh 16.04 VM and port the assets, db and anything else needed. Need to research and experiment more and there is no real rush on this since 14.04 is LTS and has until 2019.
