Problems with brew install PHP in Monterey #729

After installing shivammathur/php/php, does not appear to serve any PHP code.
I added:
LoadModule php_module /usr/local/opt/php/lib/httpd/modules/libphp.so
AND
<FilesMatch .php$>
SetHandler application/x-httpd-php

to http.conf

Checked $PATH and updated
php -ver shows Zend 8.1

chown: /usr/local: Operation not permitted

Can't go any further. Can you please offer help here? Thank you

BTW
Putting localhost:80 into browser address bar, Safari returns ... Safari cannot connect to localhost/~myshortname

Contents of /~myshortname/Sites/index.php:
<html><body><h1>It Works!</h1><h2><?php echo "PHP Text";?></h2></body></html>

Did you change the port from 8080 to 80 in your httpd.conf.

mkdir ~/Sites

Restart apache to ensure your configuration changes have taken effect:

brew services stop httpd
brew services start httpd

local host in browser address bar serves files located in the WebServer/Documents folder. This is fine.
I cannot however access the ~/Sites/index.html file by entering "localhost" in to browser address bar.
Since this is a requirement in the instructions before moving on, please advise if OK to move to PHP installation without localhost access to ~/Sites.index.html

You can reinstall httpd along with its dependencies to make sure it is installed correctly.

brew reinstall httpd $(brew deps httpd)

Then try restarting the httpd service.

brew services restart httpd

OK. Reinstalled httpd according to the above command line.
restarted brew httpd (brew services restart httpd)
Still - localhost points to /WebServer/Documents which is actually fine by me.
Still localhost:8080 generates error message: Safari can't open the page localhost/:8080 because Safari cannot connect to server "localhost"

What shall I do next?

The correct URL would be localhost:8080 i.e without a / in between.

If that is not working, please run brew services and it should show something like httpd started..., if not try restarting httpd and check again.

If it does not show httpd started, provide me the output of

cat/usr/local/var/log/httpd/error_log

and

cat /usr/local/etc/httpd/httpd.conf

From the logs you posted, it is clear that apache is not starting correctly.
Make sure you added the correct libphp module, if not please fix that and restart apache and check using brew services.
Check your php version using php -v. For php 8.1 it should be

LoadModule php_module /usr/local/opt/php/lib/httpd/modules/libphp.so

Also since you changed the port to 8.0, the URL would just be http://localhost i.e. without any ports as port 80 is assumed by default in the the URL.

For php 8.0

brew reinstall shivammathur/php/php@8.0
brew link --force --overwrite shivammathur/php/php@8.0

For php 8.1

brew reinstall shivammathur/php/php@8.1
brew link --force --overwrite shivammathur/php/php@8.1

Run these commands for the version you want, and then restart your terminal and test the php version with php -v.
