Clicking a nuxt-link does not trigger the click away handler

I'm using nuxt.js and and have a search suggestion dropdown the shows up when there are results. Clicking in any other element triggers the click away handler but when clicking on a the handler is not called.

I've tried using v-on-clickaway.native like I saw described in another issue but it doesn't seem to work.
