I was looking at removing the chkconfig collection, since no RH distro has used that in some time - certainly nothing that current sos would be packaged on.

And looking at the plugin as a whole...is it still useful/relevant? I'm inclined to say no and remove the plugin entirely, but wanted to get some feedback before doing so. Tagging @pmoravec @mhradile @arif-ali for visibility and feedback.

So, on the basis on a default deployment of bionic, focal and jammy we have the 2 folders that are collected below (based on my testing today)

  • etc/init.d
  • /etc/rc*.d

On that basis, I think we should still keep it

No problem for me with dropping the plugin (until DebianServices is needed).

So I did another check, the new release that is due in April doesn't collect it. With jammy (22.04) still supported through to 2027 and 2034 to our extended support. I don't think it makes sense to drop it quite yet
