  • ttf-hack 3.003-3
  • Arch extra respository (extra/ttf-hack 3.003-3 [386.43KiB 1.21MiB])
  • Italic, BoldItalic
  • Smaller the font size, the more cut off it is. Screenshot shows @ 14pt.
  • OS: Arch Linux x86_64, Kernel: 6.3.1-arch1-1
  • kitty 0.28.1, inside neovim v0.9.0 (only place where I see italics at this time)

Relevant kitty config:

font_size 14.0
font_family monospace
italic_font Hack Italic
bold_italic_font Hack Bold Italic

I use Hack as a stand-in for italic, since Fira Code does not have italic at this time. I've had this problem for a while, and assumed it's some issue with my config. I've yet to identify/solve the issue, so I thought I'd try here.

Originally I thought it was only M or X, but testing other letters revealed more issues.

I can adjust the cell width in kitty to over 100%, e.g., modify_font cell_width 120% but this is an ugly solution.

Also, using an alternative font, like JetBrains Mono, seems to work just fine, but I would like to use Hack if I can!
