👋

I'm co-lead of Rust's compiler team. I've been contributing to Rust since 2017 and worked on a bunch of different things in that time: I started out as part of the non-lexical lifetimes working group, helping bring the diagnostics of the new borrow checker up to par with the lexical borrow checker that we were replacing. Since then I've been involved in lots of different working groups, including async/await, debuginfo, diagnostics and meta (organising the compiler team).

For a little while, I was focused on implementing Split DWARF, which involved writing thorin, a Split DWARF packaging utility that is now part of the compiler. As I write this in late 2023, I'm leading the effort to translate the compiler's diagnostics, so that Rust is more accessible to non-native speakers of English. Since August of 2023, I also co-lead the compiler team, and so I spend some of my time thinking about the compiler team's policies and processes; running weekly meetings; and supporting the rest of the team.

I'm fortunate enough to be able to contribute to Rust part-time at work, but sponsoring me helps me worry less about paying bills and to focus on what is best for the Rust project. I like to jump around and work on whatever interests me at the time or where I think I can be useful, so being a sponsor isn't a way to direct my work, just make it easier :)

@davidtwco

I'd be surprised if there were twenty five people out there willing to sponsor my work. Prove me wrong?
