I've been wondering whether this method is reliable for MySQL/MariaDB. Quick research says "yes, but not always" - https://stackoverflow.com/a/8481692 . Perhaps it should be documented somewhere that correctness of this approach depends on innodb_autoinc_lock_mode config value?
