Ctrl-D crashes on first try

If I ssh into my digitalocean box, go into the screen session that's running my planet, and Ctrl-D to exit gracefully, I usually see this message:

Aborted (core dumped)

The ship starts up again fine, and if I hit Ctrl-D again, it shuts down gracefully. It seems like it's only the first time I try it after logging in that there's an issue.
