Hi,
First of all, I apology if that's not the right place for that kind of stuff.
I don't think it can be considered an issue per se, hence my decision to post on the Discussions section.
To elaborate on my "problem" :
My goal is to validate small pieces of HTML/CSS code, parsing the output of the checker in order to retrieve the potential errors it raised and process them to generate a more user-friendly rendering from it.
I managed to do so using the HTML checker locally through CLI, with the
vnu.jar
file.As I was also looking for a CSS validation tool, I stumbled upon the CSS-validator https://github.com/w3c/css-validator/
Having the possibility to choose the result language would be a real plus, and I noticed the latter actually offered just that, by passing a
--lang=LANG
arg to thecss-validator.jar
file, which is really neat.At first I thought this CSS-specific validator was a "subset/child" of the HTML one, thus expecting the "parent" to be also capable of rendering the result in different languages.
But I'm not so sure about that anymore.. and I guess it's way more complex than I could imagine.
The underlying relationship is unclear to me.
In case they are 2 separate things, I would expect the dedicated CSS-validator to be better at validating CSS code, but maybe it's just a lightweight version that is shipped with the HTML checker, and used within it by passing the
--css
option?I've been browsing the source code but it quickly becomes a headache given my knowledge, so I figured I would ask to people... knowledgeable !
So my question is the following: is there by any chance a way to select another language than the default english, whether it's by passing an argument that is not listed on the official documentation or something more tricky such as tweaking the code somewhere.
The only resource I found on the subject is the following issue, posted few years ago: #571
And couldn't find anything else more recent to make it clear.
Considering there is currently no way to modify the language of the HTML checker, I might stick with it for both HTML and CSS validation (using the
--css
option) for simplicity as well as having a standardized feedback between the two.But I would find it a shame to miss this feature.
