What is the issue with the HTML Standard?

Today we held our biweekly triage call (#10128) and I will post the meeting notes there in a bit. The next one is scheduled for March 7, 3pm PST. Note that this is 2 weeks later in an America+APAC friendly time.

People interested in attending the next call please respond here or reach out privately to me or the spec editors. We will be tagging issues for the next call again using the agenda+ label in all WHATWG repos and we would like to invite anyone that can contribute to said issues to join us.

Thank you all for attending this meeting! Here are the notes from this meeting (the next one is at #10200):

Agenda

Attendees: Luke Warlow, Michael Smith, Marcos Caceres, Dan Clark, Chris Harrelson, Brian Kardell, Vladimir Levin, Olli Pettay, Michael Riley, Chris Wilson, Stephanie Zhang, Domenic Denicola, Johnny Stenback

  1. Review past action items
    1. Marcos or Anne will follow up with heycam on WebKit's opinion on Add a layer and filter interface in the 2D canvas.
      1. Marcos pinged with no response, will ping again; Domenic offered further detail to ask.
      2. Need technical tiebreaker opinions on Canvas2D layers with filter support #8476 (comment)
      3. Need general confirmation that WebKit is happy with the PR API shape. There is general WebKit interest in the feature as of Canvas2D layers with filter support #8476 (comment)
    2. The Steering Group will add the stage-1 label to the Stylable <select> element issue after they publish the stages process.
      1. Done.
    3. Addison will update the add support for internationalized email addresses PR with the provided feedback.
      1. deferred
    4. Panos will file an issue with the meeting cadence change for broader visibility.
      1. Filed at Making the WHATNOT meeting cadence weekly #10163, slight change suggested by dbaron to rotation, expect Panos to implement starting next week - suggestion to have next week be a Europe + America (9:00 California time) to overlap with CSS to discuss pseudoelement syntax (see below)
  2. Carryovers from last time
    1. Joint session with the I18N WG (tagged issues) carryover
      1. Time-related issues (#9542, #5488)
        1. Michael Riley discussed value of i18n date - Domenic asked for implementer interest, and what i18n WG perspective is. Olli: might be nice; need to ask for detail. Domenic points Michael to new proposals;
      2. Bidi-related issues
    2. [Dominic] Atomic move operation for element reparenting & reordering
      1. Deferred
    3. [Emilio] Render-blocking: the definition of "created by its node document's parser" is a little bit vague
      1. Deferred
    4. [Sanket] New attribute to control UA-provided writing assistance
      1. Dan Clark: allowing authors to suppress writing assistance. Feedback from Anne; may not be readable; haven't gotten feedback from Anne in PR. Marcos pinging Anne to get response and unblock.
  3. New topics
    1. [ChrisH/Domenic] Design pattern for naming new pseudoelements - joint issue with CSSWG.
      1. To be taken up at next week's meeting?
    2. Add light dismiss functionality to <dialog>
      1. Luke discusses overview. Domenic mentions subtleties, encourages design and more review. Luke to check if standards-position has been filed for webkit (done). Olli wonders if new attributes would be <dialog>-specific or could be more broadly applied.
    3. New attribute to control UA-provided writing assistance
    4. Luke gives slight nudge to talk on popover-hint.

@past I drew an action to ask for time in your April call to follow up on carryover issues. We can also work with @annevk off-line if that is a more efficient path.

@aphillips I'll mostly end up deferring to @past for scheduling purposes so definitely cc him, but I suspect this'll work too. 😊
