What is the issue with the HTML Standard?

Yesterday we held our now weekly triage call (#10229) and I will post the meeting notes there in a bit. The next one is scheduled for April 11, 9am PST. Note that this is 1 week later (per #10163) in an America+Europe friendly time.

People interested in attending the next call please respond here or reach out privately to me or the spec editors. We will be tagging issues for the next call again using the agenda+ label in all WHATWG repos and we would like to invite anyone that can contribute to said issues to join us.

Thank you all for attending the meeting today! Here are the notes from this meeting (the next one is at #10275):

Agenda

Attendees: Luke Warlow, Joey Arhar, Panos Astithas, David Baron, Emilio Cobos Álvarez, Brecht De Ruyte, Dominic Farolino, Mason Freed, Sanket Joshi, Olli Pettay, Simon Pieters, Noam Rosenthal, Kagami Rosylight, Peter Van der Beken, Anne van Kesteren, Chris Harrelson

  1. Review past action items
    1. Mason will ping Domenic about Focus delegate algorithm doesn't consider elements assigned to slot.
      1. Will follow up.
  2. Carryovers from last time
    1. [Kara] Image loading on page load
      1. Feedback was provided in the issue, Kara will follow up.
    2. [Mason] Add anchor attribute
      1. Philip has provided some review feedback. More reviews would be appreciated.
      2. Emilio says that it would be more consistent to make the anchor attribute a presentational attribute. Not a blocker though.
      3. Luke asks what is the current alternative, Mason clarifies it is to nest popovers explicitly.
      4. Simon points out that for the CSS connection it would have to be an element function.
      5. Chris asks whether Emilio's concern is about developer ergonomics. Discussed the ergonomics of various options.
      6. Emilio agrees to Mason's proposal that calling it an implicit anchor element would be an improvement.
      7. Anne suggests fallback anchor element or host anchor element as a perhaps clearer name.
      8. Mason or Joey will add comments with the different developer ergonomics of the various options.
  3. New topics
    1. [Anne/Dominic] Introduce DOM post-insertion steps
      1. Discussion of the script running events that may be relevant here (e.g. Mutation events, execCommand).
      2. Agreed that the insertion and removal steps are not symmetric.
      3. Removing events and script execution is a separate question to consider in the future.
      4. Any future things that want to fire events post insertion should not add to post-insertion steps.
      5. Custom element reaction timing is also consistent across browsers.
      6. Olli wants to think through the removal case for Gecko and test other browsers.
      7. Noam will share with Olli a document with the results of Dominic's and Noam's investigation into Blink.
