What is the issue with the HTML Standard?

Today we held our now weekly triage call (#10287) and I will post the meeting notes there in a bit. The next one is scheduled for May 2, 4pm PDT. Note that this is 1 week later (per #10163) in an Americas+APAC friendly time.

People interested in attending the next call please respond here or reach out privately to me or the spec editors. We will be tagging issues for the next call again using the agenda+ label in all WHATWG repos and we would like to invite anyone that can contribute to said issues to join us.

      1. Deferring until May 9.
  3. New topics
    1. [Gabriel] Proposal: pause iframe media when not rendered
      1. Explainer. Perf and UX are the main motivations. Feedback is welcome.
      2. Mason asks how this interacts with content visibility.
      3. Chris indicates that there will be no adverse interactions.
      4. Olli asks about why the proposal uses permission policies.
      5. Gabriel describes the need for centralized control, but is open to other ideas.
      6. Joey suggests adding the same feature to iframes.
      7. Sanket asks about the relation to the other proposal.
      8. Mason points out that it would be more productive to have this discussion with the HTML spec editors present.
      9. Michael asks if it's possible to mute the iframe without a permission policy.
      10. Gabriel explains how this proposal fits into the existing framework.
      11. Steve says that they are open to exploring other options.
      12. Sanket asks to confirm if the folks present have concerns with the concept, separately from the shape of the feature.
      13. Olli and Mason agree that the concept seems fine.
    2. [Joey] HTML parser changes for stylable <select>
      1. Olli says Henri should look into this and that Mozilla folks are looking into select and combobox improvements in OpenUI.
      2. Mason says that the latter is waiting for some feedback on the former first.
      3. Michael asks about site breakage.
      4. Joey describes the results he shared in the issue.
      5. Michael suggests that a separate section on breakage would be helpful.
      6. Olli will ask Henri to look into this from a parser parser point of view.
    3. [Panos] Meeting 1 for joint OpenUI-WHATWG/HTML-CSSWG task force on styleable form controls on Wednesday May 8, 2024 at 8am PDT. The meeting will take place in the CSSWG Zoom meeting room and IRC channel.
      1. Mason asks for the agenda. Panos will post it in the issue once it's published in www-style.
