Your Account Type

  • Wire Personal Account

What steps will reproduce the problem?

  • Export back-up on Wire Desktop on Linux
  • Log onto Wire Web
  • Restore the .desktop_wbu backup on Web

image

What is the expected behaviour?

#6514 (comment) -- comment from a former maintainer saying that the two backups are compatible.

Which browser are you using?

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.15; rv:99.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/99.0

It's an M1 Pro Macbook, not Intel, as the agent string incorrectly says.

Installed browser addons

None. New browser installation.

Restoring backup of another account across desktop/webapp has worked.

The one that doesn't work has had a large number of conversation going back to 2017, if that helps.

For me, when I am trying to create a backup with the desktop app of Wire, the process crashes at ~70% completion (over 60 000 messages)

@Leza89 That seems to be a separate issue as this one is encountered when restoring, not creating. Although I recall Wire erroring out a couple times when creating, too, but I think it worked after trying multiple times.
