Using desktop application version 5.9.5 under Ubuntu 22.04 with the Mate window manager / desktop.

The zulip icon is shown in the system tray, but unfortunately the icon does not change in any way when any of the organizations in the app has new unread messages for me.

This works fine with Skype and Slack, which I also use and which show a dot in the icon to indicate unread messages.

This impacts usability enormously because I often only react with a delay to new messages which would not happen if a changed icon would draw attention to the unread messages.

My config settings in the app are (lower left corner cog-wheel):

  • show app icon in system tray: enabled
  • Auto hide menu bar: disabled
  • Show sidebar: enabled
  • Show app unread badge: enabled

I would have expected that "show app unread badge" should do this, but while the icons representing the organizations within the app window do show unread badges, the Zulip icon in the tray does not show anything.
