JavaScript Canvas Image Compressor

Simple image compressor that accept image source from Javascript FileReader. It can be used to compress images by using canvas element.

Usage

npm install canvas-image-compressor

Now you can get compressor and call on it then() with two arguments. The first is function that accpets new Blob and will be invoked if compressing is successfullly done. The second is function that accepts error message which will be invoked if compressing is not successfullly done.

Be aware compressor works asynchronously and compress method returns Promise.

var canvasImageCompressor = require("canvas-image-compressor");
var sourceImg             = document.getElementById("sourceImg");

canvasImageCompressor.compress({"sourceImgObj": sourceImg}).then(
  function(blob) {
    var newImg     = document.createElement("img");
    var urlCreator = window.URL || window.webkitURL;
    var imageUrl   = urlCreator.createObjectURL(blob);

    newImg.src     = imageUrl;

    document.body.appendChild(newImg);
  },
  function(errorMessage) {
    alert(errorMessage);
  }
);

Options that can be passed to manage output image

outputFormat - a DOMString indicating the image format. The default is image/jpeg

canvasImageCompressor.compress({"outputFormat": "image/png", "sourceImgObj": sourceImg}).then(
  function(blob) {
    // handle success
  },
  function(errorMessage) {
    // handle failure
  }
);

quality - a Number between 0 and 1 indicating image quality if the requested type is image/jpeg or image/webp. If this argument is anything else, the default values 0.92 and 0.80 are used for image/jpeg and image/webp respectively. Other arguments are ignored.

canvasImageCompressor.compress({"quality": 50, "sourceImgObj": sourceImg}).then(
  function(blob) {
    // handle success
  },
  function(errorMessage) {
    // handle failure
  }
);
