  1. Replace deprecated String.prototype.substr() 

    String.prototype.substr() is deprecated (see https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/String/substr) so we replace it with similar functions which aren't deprecated.
