01.09.2020 UPDATE

Hey! For the time being, in order to make an impact, we need the websites to have a slightly different content. This means 2 things:

  1. I'm working on creating a randomiser for the content of your website so we still keep it easy-peasy contribution with one click
  2. If you do fork the project after this date, please change the content around (scroll down to see the different suggestions I have for the meta tags of description&title, change up some pics, add text, go wild!), the structure can remain the same

I'll update you once the randmosier is done, but until then there is a 99% chance our websites are going to be blocked by Google :( (DuckDuckGo and Ecosia are fine though)

Now that you are informed you can choose what you wish to do :) Thanks!

Algtivism

Algtivism is a social project aimed to storm the search results of search engines by normalizing inclusion and diversity. Feel free to fork it but use it responsibly.

To make it easier, I've set up all you need in order to have a basic running website and documented some steps/guide as to what to change (if you want to), where and how to find things.

OR Watch it on YouTube here!

Live

I'll keep all the websites you create in a list here below, so once you have it live, submit a PR request with a link to your created website and it'll appear here!

  • style.css > styling, fonts
  • script.js > anything JavaScript you wish

How to run

If you don't want to change anything, just fork the repo and scroll to the How to publish section below

If you do want to change things here and there:

  1. Fork the repo
  2. Clone it to your machine
  3. Open it in an IDE of your choice
  4. In index.html search for FILL IN and replace with your content or with some suggestion from the Meta Tags section below (this is the most important part for the SEO.)
  5. Adjust some styles in style.css and change the content in index.html, check Images and Fonts section below
  6. Once you're done - push the changes to your repo and check the How to Publish section to go live!

P.s. keep the website mobile friendly - important for SEO!

How to publish

Once you have the repo in your GitHub, navigate to Settings > scroll to GitHub Pages section > in the source choose master branch and save! After some minutes your website should be up and running.

If you have ANY questions - please reach out to me or here or on Instagram @danascript.

Content of choice

You are free to use any content you wish (don't forget to check for copyrights!) but here are some tips/suggestions:

Meta tags

TIP: type in the search engine the term the results of which you wish to change (e.g. professional hairstyles), navigate to an example of your choice, click on the page to get the dropdown menu (right/left click on the mouse depending on your preferences) and choose View Page Source. Now press Command + F or Ctrl + F and search for title and then description and here you go! All the information you need.

Titles
  • Professional Hairstyles
  • Hairstyles for Interviews
  • Workplace hairstyles
  • Hairstyles 2000 - 2020

Images and Fonts

I found the current content on Pexels and the font from Google Fonts. Always check for copyrights of images/fonts/anything else you're taking from the web!

For better SEO I highly recommend you to optimise the images (in Pexels you can already get them in the size you need) and run them through an optimising service (I use Panda).
