I've had a go at #21 in this PR. Initially I tried to replicate the glowing lines by adding several bars with differing sizes and opacities but that didn't work. In the end I just used the existing line glow function applied to the outlines of the bars which works quite well and plays nicely with the existing gradient function for bars.
