Describe the bug

The app (on a version prior to 5.6.2) automatically closes shortly after opening, with no error information or indication of why. I checked the local error logs but nothing useful came up. The workaround is to manually download and install 5.6.2, but the issue will persist if we release a new version.

Can you do the same thing twice?

  1. Download or open an existing Mapeo desktop app version prior to 5.6.2
  2. Open the app.
  3. App closes
  4. Open the app.
  5. Notice that you're still on older Mapeo version

Expected behavior

Autoupdater should work and not close the app automatically. Opening after closing should result in latest version being installed.

Desktop:

  • OS: MacOS
  • Version: Ventura (13.5.2)

Mapeo Version:

  • Desktop: Any version prior to latest available (5.6.2)
  • Mobile: N/A

I just experienced this issue on a Windows machine with the latest 5.6.2 build downloaded from the https://mapeo.app/ page, and from Releases here on Github. In a quick attempt to troubleshoot, I uninstalled Mapeo before trying again, and also deleted the Mapeo folder from %AppData%. Neither made a difference.

On Linux the 5.6.2 build works just fine.

Hey @rudokemper it would be helpful if you added some specs about your Windows machine, eh? 😆

Windows 11 Pro. "Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22684.1000.0"

I can now also add that I've tried to delete all Mapeo config that I found in the Windows registry editor and continue to have the same issue. But, I've seen other users on their Windows machines install Mapeo Desktop just fine, so it might be an isolated issue for just me (which is not a problem).
