footer param in the config.json doesn't help to hide the default footer "Documentation generated by ...". This footer is generated by default.
Custom footer has been wrapped with span in layout.tmpl.
NOTE: With certain themes (with bg = color e.g. Lumen), if footer param in config it set to nothing, certain part of the default footer is hidden, only links are visible. (As shown in issue #305)
