USB-DUX

alt tag

USB-DUX is now open source/hardware. After 15 years, USB-DUX data acquisition boards are no longer being manufactured.

Below are the design files which you can send to a prototyping service or manufacturer. We recommend European Circuits (https://european-circuits.co.uk/) here in Glasgow / Scotland.

The Original USB based DAQ for Linux

The USB DUX is the perfect data acquisition unit for real-time monitoring and control. The board takes advantage of the real time speed and power of the USB port and is designed to work perfectly under Linux. This means that it is easy to program and works well on embedded systems or desk top computers. The board is plug and play with most distributions such as UBUNTU.

Drivers

No need to install any drivers as they are part of the Linux distributions.

USB-DUX uses the comedi framework (http://www.comedi.org). Use the packages provided by your distro. Do not compile comedi from source.

Special case: Raspberry PI

The Raspberry PI team has removed COMEDI ever since from the kernel and if you want to use the USB-DUX on a raspberry PI please follow the instructions here: https://github.com/glasgowneuro/comedi_raspberry_pi_bullseye

Debian/Ubuntu packages:

sudo apt install libcomedi-dev
sudo apt install libcomedi0
sudo apt install firmware-linux-free

Check that you are in the group iocard. Open the groups file:

sudo nano /etc/group

and see if your username is added to the group iocard:

iocard:x:125:my_user_name

Support & Troubleshooting

Please join the comedi mailing list here: https://www.comedi.org

Check with

sudo dmesg

if you see:

[ 3506.038554] comedi: version 0.7.76 - http://www.comedi.org
[ 3506.065482] comedi comedi0: ADC_zero = 80011c
[ 3506.066796] comedi comedi0: driver 'usbduxsigma' has successfully auto-configured 'usbduxsigma'.
[ 3506.066849] usbcore: registered new interface driver usbduxsigma

and check that you are in the group iocard:

iocard:x:125:my_user_name

If it's not the case add yourself, save the file and reboot.
