This release represents a whole rewrite of Jangouts using modern Javascript tools and frameworks.
In previous releases the technology stack of Jangouts was centered around Angular 1.x and other technologies that were dominant at 2015 (date of the first Jangouts release). Release 0.6.0 is based on React and other relatively up-to-date technologies. That should ease future development and remove barriers to receive contributions.
Additionally, the user interface was completely redesigned. It's more intuitive now and it works better in mobile devices.
Unfortunately, this release also removes several Jangouts features:
- Possibility to show participant thumbnails as pictures instead of video
- Customization of the screen layout
- Keyboard shortcuts
- Push to talk
- Changing the name during a call (not that useful, anyways)
The plan is to bring back those features on upcoming releases.
