Knative on kind practice

Install requirements

Knative on kind on Docker Desktop on Mac:

$ brew install kind kubernetes-cli helm@2

Knative on kind on Linux:

$ export KIND_VERSION=v0.6.1
$ curl -Lo ./kind https://github.com/kubernetes-sigs/kind/releases/download/${KIND_VERSION}/kind-$(uname)-amd64
$ chmod +x ./kind
$ sudo mv ./kind /usr/local/bin/kind
$ sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install -y apt-transport-https
$ curl -s https://packages.cloud.google.com/apt/doc/apt-key.gpg | sudo apt-key add -
$ echo "deb https://apt.kubernetes.io/ kubernetes-xenial main" | sudo tee -a /etc/apt/sources.list.d/kubernetes.list
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install -y kubectl
$ curl -LO https://git.io/get_helm.sh | bash

Create Kubernetes cluster on kind

$ export K8S_VERSION=v1.16.3
$ kind create cluster --name knative --image kindest/node:${K8S_VERSION} --config kind-config.yaml

 ✓ Preparing nodes 📦
 ✓ Writing configuration 📜

Set kubectl context to "kind-knative"
You can now use your cluster with:

kubectl cluster-info --context kind-knative

To further debug and diagnose cluster problems, use 'kubectl cluster-info dump'.

Install MetalLB

https://metallb.universe.tf/installation/#installation-with-kubernetes-manifests

$ export METALLB_VERSION=v0.8.3
$ kubectl apply -f https://raw.githubusercontent.com/google/metallb/${METALLB_VERSION}/manifests/metallb.yaml
$ kubectl apply -f metallb-config.yaml

Install Istio for Knative
