Update 2018-04-13:

The problem is fixed by Apple. No code changes required when using the latest macOS 10.13.4 (17E199), Xcode 9.3 (9E145) and Swift 4.1 (swiftlang-902.0.48 clang-902.0.37.1).

Introduction

This is a simple demo project to show that preferences panes programmed in Swift 4 will not work when used in macOS High Sierra. Related and similar to https://github.com/klaas/QlaasSwiftScreenSaver. On macOS Sierra the pane works fine.

Steps to reproduce

  • Clone this repo, and build it with Xcode 9.1
  • Install the generated "QlaasSwiftPreferencesPane.prefPane" by double clicking
  • Open System Preferences and try to access the pane labeled 'QPP'

Error description:

As soon as you click on the icon of the installed pane within the System Preferences, an error window will come up:

Accompanied by an error message in the Console app:
