Cirrus Maximus

Cirrus Maximus is an extension for your web browser that enables scraping and exporting data from the Cirrus online assessment platform. With this extension enabled, users can export data directly from a Cirrus form or collection and format these data into convenient output, such as an overview of the elements in a test or an assessment matrix that summarizes the elements in a test categorized by taxonomies and learning objectives.

Installation

To download and install Cirrus Maximus for use in your browser, please follow the steps below.

  1. Click the green <> Code button in the top-right of this page and click Download ZIP (see image below). Next, unpack the folder somewhere on your computer.

  1. Open your web browser and navigate to edge://extensions (Microsoft Edge) or chrome://extensions (Google Chrome).

  2. Enable Developer mode and select Load unpacked.

  3. Browse to the local folder that contains the extension's code and click Select.

  4. If there are no errors, the Cirrus Maximus extension will load automatically into your browser.

Usage

To use Cirrus Maximus in your browser, please follow the steps below.

  1. Pin the extension to your browser's toolbar by clicking on the extension icon.

  1. Go to the Cirrus website, log in, and navigate to an existing form or collection. The recommended approach is to go into a form, as it ensures that the overview or assessment matrix is generated with the latest information once the test is finalized.

  2. Click on the Cirrus Maximus icon in your toolbar. Via the options you can set the language of the interface to Dutch and change the csv delimiter. The two buttons allow you to export the form or collection overview or export the assessment matrix.

  1. Upon clicking on one of the two buttons, a .csv file will be downloaded to your computer, containing the form or collection overview or the assessment matrix. You can then view this file in your editor (e.g., Microsoft Excel) of your choice, but depending on your settings for the csv delimiter you might need to use the Text to columns option to view the output in separate cells. The example output below is generated using the Export assessment matrix option.
