New Relic integration for Docker

The New Relic infrastructure agent automatically monitors your Docker containers. With Docker monitoring you can:

  • Group containers by tags, attributes, and other metadata.
  • Search for containers relevant to your monitoring scenario.
  • Link to related entities that may be affected by issues with the container.
  • Set Docker-related alert conditions.

Installation and usage

For installation and usage instructions, see our documentation web site.

Compatibility

As of v1.7.0, nri-docker supports the usage either of Control Group v1 or Control Group v2.

Updating from cgroupsV1 to cgroupsV2 should be transparent to the users, without noticing any difference between the metrics in both versions.

Note: Until further notice, some new metrics that come with cgroupsV2 may not yet be implemented.

Building

Golang is required to build the integration. We recommend Golang 1.11 or higher.

After cloning this repository, go to the directory of the Docker integration and build it:

$ make

The command above executes the tests for the Docker integration and builds an executable file called nri-docker under the bin directory.

To start the integration, run nri-docker:

$ ./bin/nri-docker

If you want to know more about usage of ./bin/nri-docker, pass the -help parameter:

$ ./bin/nri-docker -help

External dependencies are managed through the govendor tool. Locking all external dependencies to a specific version (if possible) into the vendor directory is required.

Testing

To run the tests execute:

$ make test

To run some tests your host should meet specific requirements, you can check this vm setup for some insights.

Support

Should you need assistance with New Relic products, you are in good hands with several support diagnostic tools and support channels.

New Relic offers NRDiag, a client-side diagnostic utility that automatically detects common problems with New Relic agents. If NRDiag detects a problem, it suggests troubleshooting steps. NRDiag can also automatically attach troubleshooting data to a New Relic Support ticket.

If the issue has been confirmed as a bug or is a Feature request, please file a Github issue.
