Advent of VSCode

Project Icon: A star with color gradient from the orange center over yellow to the yellow-lime tips

This extension is to provide access to Advent of Code descriptions and inputs in VSCode.

Features

  • Logging in with cookie
  • Selecting year and day in TreeView
  • Loading descriptions (loads second part when logged in)
    • Opening description view to panel
  • Loading user inputs (when logged in)
    • Saving as file
    • (WIP) Opening to Editor
  • Reloads latest selected day after a VSCode restart
  • Submitting answers

An AoC cookie is valid only for about a month, so you're logged out automatically after that period of time ends.

Installation

Go to releases and download the latest version.

Open VSCode or VSCodium, press Ctrl+Shift+P to Show All Commands type Install from VSIX, run the command and select the downloaded .vsix file.

You should see a star in the Activity Bar on the side, and you're done.

WARNING: Manual installation won't automatically update the extension to later releases.

TODO

  • Create documentation & fix README
  • Refactor code for readability and stability
  • Reopen description panels after restart (workspace state?)
  • Implement better Open Input to Editor function & give feedback when fetching data
  • Make visible how many stars you have for every day (in the tree view?) and automatically select the correct level when submitting a solution
  • Reload a days' description if a solution is correctly submitted (with or without the extension)
  • Better feedback for answer submitting in extension
  • Open tree view last selected year and select last selected day after VSCode restart
  • Clear cookie from secrets when uninstalling extension (Extension Uninstall Hook)

Known Issues

  • On some Linux distributions you need to install/start a keyring/wallet to save your cookie. VSCode supports GNOME Keyring and KDE Wallet (You might have to start KWallet Manager and maybe resater VSCode before being able to store the cookie) on Linux. Windows and Mac shouldn't have any problems related to this.
