Shouldn't
name=None
also be OK? i.e. Can't this always bereturn typ(obj, dtype=res_t, name=name, **axes)

Unfortunately no. In some cases
typ
isDataFrame
(in particular cases likepd.eval("df + df")
) in which case passing anything asname=
(includingNone
) would raise aTypeError
