LGUG2Z
Seattle, WA

Hello friends!

I am LGUG2Z, primarily known for being the sole developer and maintainer of komorebi.

I develop the kind of tools that people use every day on their computers. The kind of tools that start the moment that you log on to your computer. The kind of tools that you really can't use your computer without once you have had the experience of using them.

The best way to contact me is on Mastodon: @LGUG2Z@hachyderm.io.

komorebi

komorebi is the the most starred actively developed tiling window manager for Windows 10 and Windows 11. It is extensively documented and has an incredibly active and welcoming community on Discord where I regularly dedicate a significant amount of time to help users with all questions, big or small.

komorebi is a stable, mature piece of software that is at the heart of the transition of many previous full-time macOS and Linux users used to tiling window managers such as yabai and bspwm to Windows + WSL as their primary development environment.

komorebi-application-specific-configuration

komorebi-application-specific-configuration is a central repository for documenting all non-standard behaviours encountered by myself and users users by Windows applications. I created, seeded, and now continue to maintain this repository to a high standard to document and generate configuration code for any possible edge case that may interrupt the tiling window management experience of komorebi (or other tiling window manager!) users.

komokana

After contributing to kanata to enable inter-process communication over TCP, i created komokana, a daemon which listens in the background to state changes in komorebi and executes keyboard layer changes in kanata based on user configuration. This can be used to automatically switch to a different layer with application-specific key bindings when different applications are focused, such as a text editor or IDE, a browser, photo editing software, video editing software, etc.

helix-vim

I was the first person to make serious progress on a VIM-like configuration for the popular new text editor Helix. helix-vim was a painstaking effort of trial and error, and I keep it actively updated as new features are merged to Helix allowing for a closer replication of the traditional Vim experience that many users are familiar with.

Other stuff

Additionally, I regularly open source many tools that help me to deal with both personal pain points, such as unsubscan, a tool to quickly and easily scan your entire email inbox for links to unsubscribe from mailing lists, and professional pain points, such as elasdx, a Kubernetes-friendly as-code approach to reindexing on live Elasticsearch clusters.

Why sponsor me?

I have chosen to tackle some very big gaps in the Windows ecosystem for developers who end up having to migrate from macOS or Linux. The majority of the software that I write and make available is software that you will have running every second that you are at your computer. It is software that results in a truly transformative experience and redefines your ideas of what is possible for you as a developer working on the Windows operating system.

The unfortunately reality is that if I stop working on these problems, there will not be many people who will step up to tackle them. Just take a look at the contributor stats for komorebi and you'll get the picture pretty quickly.

Your sponsorship, even if it's just $1 a month, means a great deal to me. It has a profound positive mental impact on me personally, and it helps to maintain my motivation to keep working on these wonderful tools and making them available to the entire community.

@LGUG2Z

I would be very pleasantly surprised if 50 people were willing to sponsor my work!

I want to advertise job openings at my (presumably Windows-based!) company on the komorebi README for a month

If you, like me, believe that strong, competent software engineers can be discerned by how they optimise their development environment, there is no better place to advertise your openings for .NET / Windows developers than on the GitHub page of the most starred actively-maintained tiling window manager for the Windows ecosystem!
