Build Status Documentation Status

Usage:

make .install

Will install:

  • git
  • (oh-my-)zsh
  • tmux
  • miniconda:
    • python 3.5
    • R 3.2.2

and symlink to the appropriate config files (.Rprofile, .tmux.conf, .zshrc).

Notes:

  • The provisioning is divided into two parts (as indicated in the .travis.yml):

    • before_install:
      • remove_translation_packages.sh
      • zsh/install_git_and_zsh.sh
    • install:
      • setup_science_stack.sh

Running source full_provision.sh will run all three scripts in the proper order.

  • The full documentation is available as a Read The Docs Wiki -- they are slightly out of date.

  • tmux/.tmux.conf is based on pivotal's tmux config + tmux-yank

  • if using a linux desktop from crouton you'll need to change the default locale of gnome-terminal:

gconftool --set --type=string /apps/gnome-terminal/profiles/Default/encoding en_US.UTF-8
  • if using ubuntu from a lenovo (e.g. ideapad), follow these instructions to restore functionality to the brightness button. In particular, modify the _DEFAULT value in /etc/default/grub and add blacklist lenovo_laptop to the blacklisted hardware (see accepted answer).
  • with R 3.2.2 default behaviour with install.packages() is to use libcurl. Consequently, the .Rprofile has to be changed to account for builds of R that don't properly link to libcurl.

Testing:

  • Install scripts are tested using vagrant and virtualbox -- you may need to make sure that hardware acceleration is enabled in your system's BIOS if you find that you cannot virtualize 64-bit Ubuntu...
  • The repo vagrant file, Vagrantfile, has all the provisions set up so that you, too, can verify that the tests exist, simply invoke vangrant up at the top-level of the repo.
