VTE Lite is a fork from libvte with the intent of being used simply as a dumb terminal widget. It doesn’t understand the usual pty protocol and doesn’t need to. It is intended only to provide user input to the app and show the app output to the user in a terminal-like way.

A good side-effect of the pty independence is the ability to be run under Windows, and this has been a main goal for the project.
