🐝 Alby Extension Master Design

🎨 Design Foundation

What is Open Design?

We open all of our files to the design community. Anyone can copy the latest version of Alby, make design changes, and suggest ideas. Contributors are rewarded based on their impact on Alby products.

What is the ✨ Alby Design Process ✨?

At Alby we are committed to bring Bitcoin payments to the web. Alby helps you to buy, send, receive bitcoin, collect Ordinals and use Nostr apps in a safe and easy way.

Anyone can join and start contributing to the adoption of bitcoin as a means of payment. We use Bitcoin Design principles in our design process. Open Design is at the core of our design process. Open design is about global collaboration that balances the free exchange of design information, the independence of individual designers and the collective power of collaboration. If you want to know more about the open design principles, Bitcoin technology and more

As a designer, you can view our latest design files in Figma, find Github issues or view current UX issues on our research repository Explorations and iterations by contributors should be made on their copy of Master Design file or in a 💪 Working files section on Alby Figma product group. After consensus regarding new designs is reached, files will be merged into the main Master Design file.

UX/UI process within the team

Note: Everything is an iteration all the time and can change!

  1. Choose an open issue that you'd like to contribute to
    • If there's no open issue, you can create a new one and describe the problem and proposed solution
  2. Discuss with the team and other contributors
    • Discussion can take place on the GitHub issue
    • If needed, organize a refinement meeting with people who should be involved can be arranged
  3. Mockup creation
    • in your copy of Alby Extension Master Design or other files
    • or in a new file in 💪 Working files folder
  4. Mockup feedback
    • Mockup screenshots and link to the Figma file should be posted in the issue
    • Mockup feedback meeting can be arranged (with people who should be involved)
  5. Design handoff before development in a closed time frame
  6. Break up the design into multiple (dev-) issues
  7. Keep loop during all steps is important to ensure timely feedback (UX/UI/dev/user-feedback)

How to iterate with Alby Figma files?

Alby Extensions design is based on two Figma files:

The Master Design file is built with components that you can find within this file. Color, font and shadow styles used in Master Design can be found in the Design Foundations file.

You can copy one of those files and iterate there in your copied version. To iterate on Master Design file, copy it and turn on Design Foundations library in your copied file to be able to use defined colors, fonts and shadow styles.
