Summary:

The fwupdate package version 9-3 in Arch doesn't support EFI system partition locations other than /boot/efi.

Solution:

Upgrade to fwupdate 10-1 and configure the ESP in the fwupd configuration. Visit https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fwupd#Running_fwupd for instructions and https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/55815 for background on this issue.
